I have been using Firefox since it came out way back in 2006. It is without doubt the best browser out there so far. Sure other browsers are there and are faster then Firefox, but what really differentiates Firefox from the crowd is the community and ever expanding numbers of add-ons & themes. You can personalize Firefox same way you will personalize your house or room. Change the look, download extensions to make it work in a certain way or do a certain task. Whatever my need be i have managed to find an extension.
There are few extensions that are a must have for me. On a new Firefox install ill go ahead and install these extensions before i do anything else. From general use to specific use its all here.
- LastPass Password Manager : This is by far the best application for Firefox. The application is a Password Manger that works across different OS and different Computers. I have it on my Macbook, my pc at work and my pc at home. Once you have created the account on lastpass site and installed the extension on all your computers. Just log on, using the extension and browse as you normally would. When you log onto any site, lastpass asks you if you would like to save the password click yes and that’s it. Next time you visit the site on any of the pc’s where you are logged into Last Pass it will Just automatically enter the password for you. its magic trust me!
- AutoPager : 2nd Best extension that i cant live without. With AutoPager the site you are visiting becomes one huge page. Rather then clicking on Next page when you reach the end, what AutoPager does is loads the next page as soon as you are near the first one. Once you visit a site AutoPager will check if there are settings for the site available or not, once it finds them it’ll ask you before downloading and once its done you’ll wonder how you can ever live without AutoPager. You have to use this to truly appreciate this extension.
- Delicious Bookmarks : If you use delicious then you need this extension. Nuff Said. I only use delicious for my bookmarks, saves me the hassle of synchronizing books marks across computers. Also helps in finding new links to a particular topic. delicious is bookmarks with social network. People bookmarks sites and tag them. You search with the tag and find links. Simple as that. This extension easily allows you to add new bookmarks and manage your delicious account.
- Skipscreen : So waiting on rapidshare/megaupload and other such site, waiting for the download timer to run out in order to click the link. Now we are not going to be just looking at the screen and counting down. 9 out of 10 times will be browsing some other site and when we do decide to go to the RS/MU the counter is finished and the link has expired. This is where Skipscreen comes in. Visit a site and that’s it. Skipscreen will wait for the counter to finish and click on the link for you. All you have to do is choose where to save the file.
- DownthemAll! : Download Manager and accelerator for Firefox. No need to get flashget or freedownloadmanager this does the work for and does it really well. Pause/Resume your Downloads. Download the whole page or selected items.
- Adblock Plus : This extension falls into the grey area. It blocks Ad’s from website. Now all blogs and sites need us to view these ad’s for them to make some money. I have this mostly enabled on sites that have unpleasing ad’s or lot of them. helps me to browse the site properly.
- BugMeNot : If Not all most of the websites will require you to register to better avail all services that they provide. To read an article etc. It gets tiresome to fill out a form, register, click on activation link and then view the content. With BugMeNot you can skip all those extra steps. BugMeNot has a database with sites and username and password that people have registered with and submit to BugMeNot. Once you reach a site that requires password all you have to do is right click in the username box and click on login with bugmenot. It’ll automatically fill in the details and off you go.
- RetailMeNot : Shop Online a lot? Want to save some money? This application does just that. When you are on a checkout page for some website. This Extension will automatically check their server and retrieve any coupon code and notify you. You can check the coupon code and use it if it fits your need. Coupon Codes are submitted by the users. This Extension is from the same people who brought you BugMeNot.
- Video Downloadhelper : This Extension will allow you to download videos and images from Websites. It automatically detects video playing in flash like YouTube/dailymotion etc. When it thinks it can do something for you the icon will animate. Click on it and it’ll give you link to what all you can Download. Choose your file and where you want to save it. That’s all and you’ll have that latest video of Cute Bunnies on the background music of Britney Spears.
- Better Gmail 2 : This extension is basically a collection of greasemonkey scripts for Gmail. It makes your Gmail experience a whole lot better by Adding useful extra features to Gmail, like hierarchical labels, macros, file attachment icons, and more. Highly recommended by Gina Trapani of Lifehacker.
- Zotero : We all use internet to browse, research, get material etc for our research and homework. Zotero allows you to collect, manage, cite your sources. Everybody i know uses it differently but one way to describe is that “if you research, you need zotero to keep track of all the content”
- Zemanta : Zemanta Bring relevant information to your blog post, emails etc. The Firefox extension works with Email applications like Gmail, yahoo etc. Once you are down writing your email, click on the button that says Add zemanta, the right side of the page will display content/images etc that zemanta found which you can add to your email with a click. They have a plug-in available for WordPress, Live Writer etc. Michael Arrington of TechCrunch describes zemanta as blogging on acid.
- Cooliris : Cooliris is the best way to browse Images and videos on numerous site over the internet. It takes away the stale interface and gives you a new interface with images & videos all lined up on a wall and you can see around, browse in 3D. Click an image/video and it shows you more information about it.
Thanks to Jaco for pointing out in the comments, that i forgot to put up a link to all these extensions. They are all available over at Mozilla Addons Collections (link).
There you have it. 13 Extensions that i can’t live without. If you think there is something i should look at post away in the comment. Thanks

13 extensions and only one link and it's to lifehacker? They have the internet on computers now and you can, ya know… link to stuff! You should try it!
I like your post bro. I use some of the add-ons you mentioned and I'm checking ones I didn't know about.
Two add-ons I think are cool that you may or may not know about, or you simply don't like them:
1-Screengrab: makes life easier by capturing selected areas or the whole pages in firefox (I don't use that alot anymore, since I use littlesnapper on mac which is in app that does the same thing but works outside a web browser)
2-Stumbleupon: an interesting time killer. You specify your interests, click the button and it wil show you a random website based on your interests.
Updated the article with link to the collection. thanks for pointing out. cheers
I like Billeo. It's not only a great password manager but also helps in paying bills and shopping online. Adblock plus and Cooliris are also good. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12...
What's wrong with you? Firefox has been available since 2004.
Donkey Fodder!
Keep this kind of content going, love your site
