My 2sense worth

Another day in my life and fears are setting in. All our sensual orifices have been blocked except one! I’m talking about the ones on my head, behave. The eyes are not allowed to visit certain web sites; the mouth will not be allowed to taste alcohol soon. The smell from Tubli Bay will be fixed so they say. But what about our EARS with Radio Bahrain FM? This is such a crock of amateur goo and over the last 10 or so years has constantly degraded itself to a very large ZERO. They seem to be catering for the lowest IQ, the youngest listener and the most creatively stifled audience. I reckon their listenership numbers about 10 dudes of the same numerical age.

The advertising is atrocious and the government seems to be financing this. This blog is not long enough to list the constant stream of badly produced, amateur delivered, crap dialogue that goes out. I don’t know where to begin but I could start by asking; have you heard the Tamkeen radio spot. What on earth is that all about? I don’t understand the purpose of this unit in the first place, but then I don’t understand the appalling advertising for it. The billboards suggest that someone has bought a ladder and if you are wearing a thobe or a dress, you ascend the ladder last so nobody can look up your giblets. Forget the radio, who did that? Where do they get these people from? Who are they addressing? What a dreadful noise and mess that is and why didn’t they get English speakers to read it? Maybe they did for the Arabic version, has anyone heard that? A mate called me up and said it sounds like a bunch of psychiatrics recently released all screaming in broken Arabic.

Someone help us please! Stop this decent into anarchy and lift the sophistication a bit. No wonder the rest of the world thinks we are 3rd in line.

WTF!! Are you kidding me???

wtf

The above page is displayed when i tried to view an article on askmen.com about human hair.

Come On Government, Come On MP’s, Come on Batelco.. Are you seriously kidding me with this crap.

I can’t visit most of the websites, i cant go check out news, i cant go and read articles.

Stop pushing us back into stone age and making a dumbdown society out of Us. Let us decide for ourself what we can view and what we cannot. We have been blessed with a mind of our own that we can use to make decisions and distinguish between right and wrong. I dont need anyone from outside coming and telling me what is right and what is wrong.

Give us the freedom to do what we want and to view and take information how we feel is right. If we go against the law then prosecute and punish us but dont just feed us the information that you want us to know.

And here we go!!

Behold! the continuation to my original zain@home has finally arrived. I will be the first one to admit that I have become kinda lazy in blogging. Between work and university I hardly find time to do anything let alone blog. I promise I’ll try to be post more for the small audience that I have managed to capture here.

Zain@Home Part II will continue where the last one left off. Since using the connection on daily basis over the period of past few months I reached a point where I can tell more people about it as well as answer questions that people have emailed me and post issues that I have faced with zain@home.

Here we go.

Today is 13th of Jan and i have finally turned 21.

For the year that went by i managed to do most of the things i had written down that needed to be done before my 21st Birthday. Some of them included, Live on my own, get a nice job, get my license, and be a better person all around. All of them were completed except the last one, it was only partially completed maybe like 10% out of 100. Not bad actually.

I am at work, not the best place to be on your birthday but then i didn’t had much to do anyways outside so thought why not have another productive day.

I am really happy today first because i turned 21 and i can finally be considered an adult.. I got few plans to make my day interesting, going out for dinner with friends, enjoying, reflecting back and partying hard (which will happen on Thursday because no one parties on Sundays) .

Other then that i am kinda pissed on just one thing that i cant spend my birthday with the person i wanted to spend it most with, that would be my girlfriend. Her dad is in town and he doesn’t like me much so yeah there goes spending birthday with her. BOLLOCKS!!!!

I guess ill just eat my cake picture of which can be found below.

Oh there is a present in the cake..WOHOOOOO!!!

Cheers to everyone. Have a nice day..

P.S. Since its ammar birthday he can have some of the cake but not the surprise inside the cake..

Sense of humor..

Bill Gates has quite a sense of Humor. The head of Microsoft will be stepping down as the head and will be doing god knows what.

He announced his stepping down at CES 2008 which is still going on. He made a parody video of his life after Microsoft and to be honest its quite funny.

Have a look at it below.

Zain @ Home, First Impressions..

As mentioned in my previous post i applied for Zain @ Home Service. They finally installed it and after doing lot of tests in and about i have nothing but good things to say about.

From applying to installation it takes them 14 days, till the end of the year the installation was free of cost but i think that must have changed by now.

When you go to apply for the line, you have to present your CPR the latest Bill (electricity, water, telephone, anything) that has the address of where you want to apply. You will have the choice of signing up for 1 year contract or for 18 months contract. This basically allows them to recover the cost of the equipment which they give for quite cheap.

If you decide to go for 1- Year contract you will be paying 40 Dinars at the signup else for 18 months you will give 30 or 35, i forgot. At the counter itself they will ask you to choose a number for your home line. You can get the attendant to keep coming up with new numbers until you find one you like just dont do it a lot else she will poke you in the eye wih the pen.

After that the waiting period begins 14 days in my case, might have changed by now. Once the 14 days gets over they will call you fix an appointment just make sure you are at home else you will have to wait another 14 days till your turn comes back.

The installation has been outsourced to Al Mufeed Electronics close to Old Palace road and the guys do a professional Job or they did in my case because i was really excited and following them all around just as a little kid does on seeing his dad or candy.

Zain @ Home requires 2 Devices inorder to work, One is a wimax router that will be fixed on your roof or anywhere outside your premises to get the connection and the other one is a switch with builtin VOIP adapter to allow you to use the phone line that zain provides.

The guys will do all the drilling and running up wires to whichever room you want, in my case they fixed it on the roof and then used the pipes inside the wall to guide it to my flat. I have posted some pictures of the hardware both inside and outside to show you what and how they fix.

The installation of Wimax Hardware took them some time as they had to drill and stuff but it took them longer to get a connection, apparently when they came to install the guys were doing some maintainence in the main server so they couldn’t receive any packets but it got sorted out and soon we were down in the flat.

This part took just 5 minutes they had the router, fixed it, configured the SIP Settings to allow me to use the phone and stuff and configured the router.

if you would want to tinker with the router later on to play with settings and stuff ask the guys for the user name and password to access the router straight away. if you don’t and later on you want it, Zain would have you reset the router do all settings again on phone. Quite a pain in the ass and i learned it hard way.

After all is said and done they make you sign the paper, don’t sign it unless you have checked everything because you wont be able to blame these guys that this is not working and that is not working later on or they did a bad job in fixing everything.

Once they left, i got down to downloading and using the internet to see how it works. I started with downloading lot of Mods for Enemy Territory’s and other games. the speed averages around 190Kbps. I was able to download 3 things at one time with one of them on 90Kbps, the other on 102Kbps and the last one on 26-28Kbps.

I started downloading at 6 an d by 7:30-7:45 i had downloaded close to 1GB worth of Stuff, actually 1Gb and 200MB.

Everything i downloaded the speed would reach the peak 200Kbps, 209kbps etc.

After i got everything, we got all 4 laptops connected started an internet game and joined we got good connection and little to no Lag. Hosted a server for friends to play and soon 10 people were on it, some from Saudi. The connection didnt lag and we were also using telephone at the same time to see how well the service performed.

As for the browsing it gets a bit slow at times, but its not like it will make you kill yourself and your computer. I still haven’t been able to figure out why it does that maybe Zain still hasn’t managed to get their DNS server proper or they are having some problem somewhere.

Looking at videos on Youtube and other site is fast and more fun. No more waiting for extended minutes so that the video can load before you play it.

The phone voice quality is good, you could be downloading stuff and still be able to hold decent conversation. The phone also works over the internet.

I subscribed to a 30 Dinars package which comes with 90 minutes of free calls to the local networks, 50% discount for 3 Zain Numbers, 12 GB Limit.

To make calls from Zain @ home is cheaper. You get free calls to other Zain @ home users. calls to all fixed line networks will cost you 10 Fils per minute, while batelco is 20 fils from land line to land line. Calls to Mobile on any network will cost you 18 Fils per minute. I remember it being cheaper before like 13 and 15 fils but i must be mistaken.

Overall, i am really happy with the performance and have been enjoying it non stop since they installed it.

Some pictures of the hardware and my computer.

This will be my street. I was fooling around while they were fixing the hardware and i took this shot. not very important.

26112007001.jpg

Thats the wimax antenna/radio that they fix outside.

09012008.jpg

Another Shot of it. it really is not that big maybe the size of a A4 Size paper thickness is bit much, but its not like you will be carrying it and doing something with it.

25122007.jpg

That is the download speed. 3 Downloads at one time. I get 160-209Kbps download speed.

Hope this post was informatics, its kinda big but whatever. Gets the point across.

Cheers

Oh God the Sickness!

Posted by Farukh Bashir | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 08-01-2008

I am sick infact very sick. My sickness cant be cured. Everyday i wake up and i find myself more and more sick falling in a deep hole that my sickness has created.

I tried really hard to control it finding new ways to get rid of it but every move i make fails me and i fall deeper into my sickness.

To be blamed for my sickness is manufacturers who keep coming out with new gadgets, every single day there is a new gadget on the market and they are attractive, which leaved you with no choice but to buy it. ofcourse my sickness is bit controlled and i get gadgets that make me productive (thats an excuse) or are a bit helpful to me.

So for now, i present to you my new sickness its called crackberry. If you get it once you cant get out of it. Every part of your body is affected by it.

What did i do, i went and got a temporary cure for the sickness by buying the new blackberry from Batelco, its called Blackberry Curve and is simply amazing. It fits nicely in hand, its light and is faster then the old Blackberry i have.

Feast your eyes on the pictures below.

08012008010.jpg08012008009.jpg08012008010.jpg

Some of you might see it as just any other ordinary phone, but mind you blackberry is the best when it comes to Working away from office. I can have access to my email. Rather then pulling my emails the server pushes them to me, which means instant email. No need to check no worries as soon as the email hits your inbox it will be on your phone.

Other then that i use it for my appointments, tasks, listen to music and i have quite a few other applications on it which involve finance, games, mind mapping software and other usual stuff.

Blackberry sure has helped me in multiple ways, i dont miss emails or my appointments and i get to have fun aswell.

If you work a lot on the move and are constantly checking your emails and would like some mobility then look no further then a blackberry. I have used Nokia’s, Windows Mobile Phones, Sony ericsson but No one does email like blackberry. its simple and straight forward. Coupled with the other goodies you get i believe blackberry is one hell of an awesome product.

If anyone has any questions regarding a blackberry, do let me know and ill try to clear them up.

Woah..Absense!!

Just realized my last post was on 14th November and i havent posted anything after that. That is so bad of me, when i started this blog i promised myself i would stick with it and keep updating it but somewhere on the line i lost it.

I dont know why but i just couldnt get myself to write about anything,  needed a bit of a push that i didnt get from anywhere.

So anyways, what have i been upto. Well lets see. From 14th to 24th Dec i forgot what i kept doing but seeing my routine now and before i would be correct in saying it was all work and after work i would be so tired that i dont feel like doing anything.

On the 24th Eve, i went to my friends place and had a blast of a christmas eve. I never had so much fun on a christmas day as much as i did on that day. its nice to be around friends on special occasions that makes it even more full of happiness. New Year Resolution, sorround myself more with friends and family who care rather then with posers.

On 25th, i worked and then i went home, as much as i wanted to spend christmas with my girlfriend it was not possible. Her dad hates me go figure!!!!

On 26th i took a flight and went out of bahrain, to relax my mind but where i went it wasnt relaxed but got somehow more full with shit that i didnt wanted in the first place.

3rd I came back and let me tell you i feel more relaxed and in good spirit.

So yeah that is what happened for last 1 month and a half. Jeez, didnt update for so long.

Anyways its nice to have you readers back and now that i got your attention. I would be updating the blog more often with little tips and tricks that can help some of you will be related to technology, life and other usual shit that we face.

Adios for now.
